Gebrauchsanleitung How To Search the Catalog
    Die Volksballaden, also traditionelle Erzähllieder, werden hier nach ihren erzählenden Themen klassifiziert — nach Standardvorstellungen in den Liedhandlungen. Das Thema „Verrat” (Thema 245a) wird durch verschiedene Aktionen, z.B. „Mord“, „in den Rücken fallen,“ „in Stich lassen” oder „verpetzen” ausgedrückt. (Weitere Beispiele)
    The folk ballads, narrative folksongs, are indexed here by their narrative Themes — stock ideas in the songs' plots. The idea of "Betrayal," Theme 245a, for instance, can be expressed by various, different actions, such as "murder," "abandoning," or "squealing on someone." (More examples here.)
  • Um eine bestimmte Ballade oder Balladen zu finden, feststellen, „Wer macht Was":
    • Das „Wer“ gibt die „Rollen“ an (z.B., Liebhaber, Familienmitglied, Opfer, usw.)
    • Das „Was" drückt die „Themen“ ihrer Aktionen aus (umwerben, helfen, verraten, prüfen, heimzahlen, usw.)
  • Themen und Rollen anwenden, die man aus den Pull-down-Menüs auswählt. Sie sind hierarchisch in dem kontrollierten Vokabular des Thesaurus eingeordnet.
  • Beliebig viele Themen anwählen und in jeder Kombination oder Reihenfolge. (Beispiele.) Kein Thema oder Rolle schließt ein anderes aus.

  • To find a certain ballad or ballads find "Who did What:"
    • The "who" are the "Roles" played (Lover, Family, Victim, etc.).
    • The "what" are the "Themes" of their actions (Courting, Helping, Betraying, Testing, Avenging, etc.).
  • Use the narrative Themes and Roles which you select from the drop-down menus on this search page. They are organized hierarchically in a controlled vocabulary Thesaurus.
  • Choose as many as you want, in any combination or sequence. (See examples.) No Theme or Role excludes any other.
